Take It Easy Today Is National Relaxation Day
Unlike other holidays where the purpose is to celebrate by doing activities, National Relaxation Day is best commemorated by doing absolutely nothing. Stay at home and veg out in front of the television or read an interesting book and do absolutely nothing at all.
You may have heard from the movie Eat, Pray, Love that the Italians have a saying, “Dolce far Niente” which means “the sweetness of doing nothing.” Although it may sound completely boring at first, this expression is far from dull. Italians pride themselves on being able to savor a moment. No matter what you are doing, do it while enjoying not just the activity, but the pleasure of the experience.
It can be difficult finding time to do nothing. Today, work weeks are hectic and busy afterschool schedules keep parents hopping from sun up until sun down. Carve some time out of your busy schedule, even just 15 minutes, to kick back, relax and celebrate the holiday. Plan ahead of time and create an opportunity to do something that is completely relaxing: schedule a massage or a day fishing at your favorite lake.
